The rainscreen wall works because it eliminates the effect of the main force which causes water penetration (wind) . Although it is impossible to prevent wind from blowing on a house, it is possible to counteract the pressure of the wind so that the pressure difference across the cladding is zero, the main force causing rain penetration is eliminated.
